happy 2008!!

I'm starting a new grading system for the movies for the new year. Like my school, A+s aren't possible, no matter how good you actually are!

The Great Debaters - B-

It started off pretty slow, but quickly picked up as the story became more interesting. I could have done without the love interest dreck, but it is Hollywood. All in all, I did end up liking it.

Atonement - A

The book was incredible. As was this movie. A gorgeous portrayal of Ian McEwan's prose masterpiece. Honestly. I was blown away. SO well done.

Amelie - B+

Fanciful, fun, cute, quirky... and how much do I want to look like Audrey Tatou? Geesh.

Driving Lessons - A-

Rupert Grint has been impressing me in the HP films, but seeing him outside of his character of Ron Weasley made me like him all the more. The movie isn't perfect, but the sometimes stilted scenes are made up for by incredible performances from Grint, Julie Walters, and Laura Linney.

Junebug - A

How did this movie pass under the radar screen? I feel like people have heard of it but have never watched it. Amy Adams is brilliant. Ben McKenzie needs to start acting more. I cannot say enough about this movie. It is sparse (hardly any musical score) but at the same time extremely emotionally fulfilling. I want to have this movie's babies.

Juno - A

Amazing. This movie makes all other teen pregnancy movies ashamed of themselves. I loved every minute - as did the rest of the people in the theater with me.
